Maison Sans Titre Fashion Show, Beijing, 2019

This project was the set design for a fashion show by Maison Sans Titre, exploring the theme of dystopia. The finale was conceived as a performance in which the stage itself would collapse before the audience. At the center stood a large structure made from a wooden construction toy. Carefully stacked piece by piece, it formed an ambiguous landscape—part futuristic city. Removing a single piece triggered a chain reaction. Like a domino effect, the landscape gradually disintegrated, filling the room with the sound of falling timber. The audience watched as the city collapsed; when the final sound faded, the show ended. The project required a structural logic opposite to conventional architecture. Rather than designing for resilience, the challenge was to create a system in which a single failure could bring down the whole. Reality, however, resisted the script. Two towers remained standing, producing an even more dystopian image than originally imagined. Like a living archive, the structure collapsed almost as a living organism. Governed by physical laws yet impossible to fully predict, it generated sounds, rhythms, and surprises beyond calculation. In the end, the collapse itself became beauty. After the show, the material were donated to kindergartens.
